March 27, 2020.

Today I have felt less overwhelmed since little by little we are seeing the shape of the final project. Basically today's class has been invested in talking with our group about the project. We have agreed on the delivery dates of each part and we have started working.

March 25, 2020.

Today, due to the quarantine circumstances in which we find ourselves, we have had our first online class.

During the hour, we have organized ourselves as we can into groups and have spent the time talking about the project. Because we do not know how or when we are going to return to the university, my group has had to modify a little the activity that we were going to carry out and finally, we have reached to an agreement.

Our last class before we go to our interships.

In the first hour of class we have been talking to the groups about the material that we will need to carry out the final project, and the budget that we need to carry it out.

Then we have continued with the agenda related to the atmosphere. We have seen the water cycle and the formation of clouds.

In today's class we have been talking about various topics. Each group had a different theme and two people from each group have come out to explain it.

Firstly, an explanation has been made about why we can see the blue sky during the day while it changes color at Sunset.

The second group has been explaining the types of pollution that exist in the atmosphere.

Lost of ozone, an important component for us since it filters v-rays. They have created an international protocol to reduce ozone loss.

Then we have discussed the parameters that affect temperature:
- latitude. Measure the position from the north to the south pole
- Season. It is not the same temperature now as in July.

Important definition:
  • daily temperature range. It is kbtained substracting the daily minimun tempersture from the dsily maximun
  • daily mean temperature
  • Monthly mean temperature
  • Annual mean temperature. Average of the twelve monthly means.

Today, just at the beginning of class, we have been reviewing the exam questions we did the day before in which we had some doubts.

Next, we have taken up the theme of the atmosphere,

What is the atmosphere like?

We can make different distinctions starting with layers;

Why do we say it has layers?

Because it increases and decreases in temperature.

-          Troposphere. The first one, where weather occurs. We have vertical mixing of air. Main composition is Nitrogen and Oxygen. It is hated with radiation emitted from Earth.

-          Stratosphere. Beyond the troposphere up to 50 km. Atmosphere ozone is concentrated in this layer. Heat source: ultraviolet radiation.

-          Mesosphere. Here temperature drops. Lowest temperature in the atmosphere. Here occur what we call meteor shower.

-          Thermosphere.  We do not have much mutter. We have very few particles. The density is much nearer vacuum

Then we have been talking about the green house.

It is a natural and very important process for us.

We are causing global warming because of contaminants that we use in our day to day.

Atmosphere

  • What is the atmosphere?

A layer that protect the surface of the earth. It is made of gases and air. We can find oxygen, C02, carbon,... It main compounds are nitrogen.

  • What is the air?
A mixure of many discrete gases, each with its own properties, in which varying quantities of tiny solid and liquid particles are suspended.

Weather. State of the atmosphere at a given time and place.
Climate. Sum of all statistical weather information that helps describe a place or a region.

Weather forecasts that go beyond a few days are not reliable.

Weather and climate main variables:

  1. Air temperature
  2. Humidity
  3. Type and amount of cloudiness
  4. Type and amount of precipitation
  5. Air presure
  6. Speed and direction of wind
All are interrelated.

Chemical composition:
The atmosphere is not as stable as we tend to think.
